Everyone know the basic necessities of life that is food, shelter and clothing. But what about the top most necessity of life? You all wonder what could that be ? Well, to be your surprise its Respect. Respect is the something which a human constantly needs.

Respect has great importance in everyday life. As children we are taught (one hopes) to respect our parents, teachers, and elders, school rules and traffic laws, family and cultural traditions, other people’s feelings and rights, our country’s flag and leaders, the truth and people’s differing opinions. And we come to value respect for such things; when we’re older, we may shake our heads (or fists) at people who seem not to have learned to respect them. We develop great respect for people we consider exemplary and lose respect for those we discover to be clay-footed, and so we may try to respect only those who are truly worthy of our respect. We may also come to believe that, at some level, all people are worthy of respect.

Some people, particularly younger generation, thinks that showing respect to someone means that you are degrading yourself. They take respect as a sign of weakness or inferiority which could harm one’s self respect. But it is absolutely wrong concept about the basic trait or emotion which makes us a real human being. If we don’t pay respect, we can’t get respect in return. Paying respect makes us cultured, more humanly and most importantly it makes us feel alive.

Respect is a power, anyone can possess but only few can hold.

  1. On point. In Nigeria we value respect so much. You will either learn respect through humility or it forced into you. But we don’t joke with the issue of respect.
